I really like your new-look blog and this little Guest book is a cute idea.
A big round of applause for your top-class blogging, fantastic photography, and your knack for writing about things with such clarity of observation, variety and ability to make it all interesting!
Who knows, perhaps one day you’ll wake up to your life as the first ever CC4M (i’ve just made that up, but I like it. It stands for Clear Communicator for the Masses). And then you’ll learn not to give so much away for free! Just think, if we all subscribed for $1 per year…you’d be able to get that sparkly new laptop.
Anyway, that’s enough “Andy is fab” for now.
All the best,
Han

Hi, I was reading your blog after a quick Google for TomTom mount since after buying my 910 yesterday the suction cup has fallen off my windscreen twice and the unit keeps falling down on its ball so I can’t see it. I checked mine against your photos, and worringly I have the new one. Have you had any trouble since you last posted? And do you know if there’s any way to wire the TomTom to the back of the stereo, as I don’t have an aux in either and want better quality than FM. I have my hands-free kit coming through my stereo so it has an input of somekind, would be very nice to use this. Thanks!

In your disclaimer, which I was reading b/c I need one like it, aren’t you missing the word ‘Don’t'? (between the ‘and’ & ‘necessarily’)
Or am I stuck in some across the pond language mix up?

Thanks Bethryn, this was a problem with my stylesheet – the word was there but you probably were not seeing it – I’ve fixed it now.

Hi Andy
Just been reading your blog re: Apple Macs. I’m currently considering the purchase of a laptop – budget ~£800. I’m got a PC at home and use PCs all day at work but I’m becoming increasingly disillusioned with them. I’d like a new wireless computer to manage (and edit – Photoshop) my photographs, access my emails, surf the net, listen to music, and maintain an orienteering website. I’d be interested in your view of spending say, £800 (with discount) on a 2GHz white MacBook against a similar spend on a Sony Vaio laptop. Thanks

Hi Steve – I sent you an email, but for the benefit of other readers, here’s the summary – brought to you by the magic Summarise feature of Mac OS X
“Had a quick look over at the UK Sony Store and the only Vaios I can see in the same price range are the C series…. Obviously a disk bigger than 80Gb would be nice for your photos, but I’ve been surviving on a 40Gb Thinkpad R series for the past few years, so I know it is manageable.
…The one thing you might want to think about is the cost of any software like Photoshop or Lightroom, but that will apply on both Mac and PC anyway…. if you use e.g. Firefox and Thunderbird already on Windows you can use them on the Mac too, or you can use Apple’s own stuff (Safari and Mail) which both work really well…. Apple’s iLife suite which is bundled on the Macbook contains iWeb which works well enough, but has some limitations on how to upload the files, so I don’t generally use it.
…I can’t really offer a fair comparative opinion as I’ve barely touched Vista and don’t know enough about Vaios specifically.
Pop into an Apple store if you can, and give it a try. “

Hi Andy: I’ve already built my light box and have been fooling around a bit with different lighting setups….I’m getting very fuzzy results and wondering if I might need a higher MP camera than my 5-year old Canon 2.3 digital eplh. Comments?
Thanks!

Hi, nice blog! To answer your question: I was figuring out StumbleUpon (it has a WordPress stumbling function) and it got me here.
An idea: it took me a long time to figure out what your blog was about – the tag cloud is way down on the page. Maybe swap it with the “blogs to follow”?

Hi, very nice blog! The answer on my question. Good article with very valid points.

Hi!
I want to make better my SQL capabilities.
I red so many SQL resources and would like to
read more about SQL for my work as mysql database manager.
What can you recommend?
Thanks,
Werutz
Andy Piper // October 9, 2008 at 11:49 |
Hi Werutz – not sure why you have the idea I’m an SQL expert, although I know some stuff. Not sure how to help other than to recommend the O’Reilly books on the subject.
